THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL YEAR! OUR SEEDLING STORE IS CLOSED UNTIL THE SPRING!
Tall, Dark & Nutritious!
Lacinato Kale is the almighty superfood! This is an organic strain of the traditional Tuscan varietal. Long thin leaves differ from more common broadleaf kale varietals, yet pack an immense amount of nutrients making it a very healthy option for Tower Garden growing.
Growing / Harvesting
Our Lacinato kale thrives in the cool Spring weather when day & nigh temperatures fluctuate the most. It can be enjoyed as a garnish as baby greens or left to mature. Enjoy adding some random leaves to salads while the plant is growing but once it matures, we strongly suggest harvesting the whole head at once and replacing with another kale plant…or a warmer weather crop depending on weather conditions.
Once harvested, it will live well in your refrigerator for up to 1 week. Freeze leaves in airtight bags/containers immediately after harvesting for future use. Leaving it in your Tower Garden after maturing can cause plants to lose colour get scruffy as bottom leaves die off. Because it grows quickly and can be easily frozen, we suggest 4-6 kale plants be included in your first crop plan and then replaced with warmer weather strains.
Ways To Enjoy
These long dark green leaves are excellent raw, in soups, stews, steamed or stir-fried...and of course, for making kale chips and smoothies! A kale Caesar salad is a refreshing twist the whole family will enjoy!
